A special Kolkata police team has arrested Faisal Ahmed, who has been sentenced to death for killing blogger Ananta Bijoy Das in Sylhet.

The team arrested Faisal from Bommanahalli in Bangalore on July 1, an official from Interpol’s National Central Bureau (NCB) Dhaka office said on Wednesday (July 6).

According to police sources in Kolkata, Bangladeshi detectives discovered Faisal’s whereabouts in India in early June. His mobile number was given to the Kolkata police, who traced the number and found Faisal in Bangalore.

Faisal was brought to Kolkata on July 3. He was using a fake passport under the name Shahid Majumdar with the address of Mizoram, which is near Kachar. He obtained a driving license from Bangalore and a voter card from Silchar.

Kolkata Police are expected to hand over Faisal to the Bangladesh Police soon.

Ananta Bijoy Das was killed with machetes by masked men in Sylhet in 2015.
