Police from the Bolgatanga District Police Station in the Upper East Region on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, arrested student blogger and journalist Joseph Dumolga known by the Facebook user name “Joe Elom Dumolga-Blogger” for complaints. Facebook posts about an ongoing beauty pageant in the area, Miss Upper East Ghana.
Blogger HarmattanGh.com, also a student at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), was reportedly charged the same day with “offensive conduct promoting the violation of public order” contrary to article 207 of the Penal Code. and other offenses, 1960 (Law 29).
Section 207 provides as follows:

His arrest follows a complaint filed by the organizers of the competition, Ayelbis Events, at the police station. Organizers said the blogger constantly targets them in his social media posts and has in many cases described them as “crooks,” among other things they believe are exposing criminality on their part.
Organizers confirmed they had filed a complaint and hoped police would facilitate a dialogue with the blogger to end his behavior which they said could ignite passion among the bosses of the beauty pageant.
According to the organizers, it was not their intention to initiate criminal proceedings against the blogger.
The blogger was later released on bail and the complaint against him was subsequently withdrawn after he was forced to delete the posts and apologize to the event’s organizers.
