Catholic council denounces deceptive blogger for saying student has died

A social media post alleged that a six-year-old St. Bernard student had died, linking him to the COVID-19 vaccine.

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board says rumors that a young student died outside one of their schools on Thursday are categorically untrue.

The board responded to a social media rumor, originally posted by a sensationalist local blogger, on Friday suggesting that a six-year-old had died and was recently vaccinated.

“We have been made aware of a message that circulated on social networks concerning a rumor concerning the St. Bernard School,” we read on Facebook.

“We want to reassure our board community that this information is false. The post said there had been one child death linked to the COVID-19 vaccine. We are grateful that this horrible rumor is false. There was an incident that happened on the bus and we are grateful that the student in question is doing well.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is launching vaccinations for children between the ages of five and 11 who have so far not been eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine on Friday.

“Please refer to the Thunder Bay District Health Unit for information on immunizing children and adolescents,” the post concludes.
