Well-known blogger Mikhail Litvin faces up to five years in prison for blowing up his friend’s car for a YouTube channel. Lev Tropin, a lawyer for the TOPgroup alliance, warned of criminal liability that could threaten a blogger who destroys someone else’s property in a comment to News.ru.
The lawyer said that Lytvyn’s actions could be qualified under part 2 of article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Destruction or willful damage to property”). As Tropin clarified, under this article, a blogger can be sentenced to hard labor for up to five years or imprisonment for up to five years.
According to the lawyer, Lytvyn’s actions are “a crime of a public nature”, that is, they do not oblige the owner of the destroyed property to contact law enforcement.
“At the same time, the actions of the famous blogger Mikhail Litvin should be given special attention by the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation due to the fact that the circulation of explosives and of gear, and their unauthorized use and operation is also a criminal offence,” he added to Tropine.
A video in which Lytvyn blows up someone else’s BMW M5 car worth ten million rubles appeared on his YouTube channel last Sunday, February 6. In the video, a young man doused a car with gasoline, then shot a flaming arrow at it from a bow, after which the car exploded. The video has been viewed over five million times.
