From maggie laddoo to momo chocolate to every street food unnecessarily loaded with cheese and butter, 2021 had had enough of disgusting innovations and dietary experimentation. Just as the year was about to end, a Delhiite added another recipe to the bizarre list, a barfi made by Parle-G cookies. Karan Singhal, a food blogger from Delhi, took to his Instagram account to share a video on how to do “Desi Ghee mein fried Speaks-G ki barfi”. Through the video, Karan explains step by step the ingredients to use and the process to make his recipe.
Since it was shared, the video has garnered over 80,000 likes on Instagram with over a thousand people commenting mainly to express their disgust at the sickening recipe. Meanwhile, some were curious to try it out for themselves.
In the video, Karan starts by frying a few Parle-G cookies in desi ghee until they brown, then grinds them into a paste. He then mixes milk with powdered milk in a bowl and pours it into a saucepan containing sugar and water. At the end, he heats the two mixtures together in the saucepan until it acquires a consistency similar to that of barfi.
Viewers on Instagram felt disgusting watching the recipe with one user writing: “Aisa kyun karte ho sir aap (why do you do such things, sir)”, while another warned everyone to never try it at home. Some users appreciated Karan’s efforts and wrote, “Great idea, I’ll try it for sure. “
The video even took to Twitter, where people were pretty nauseated and responded with memes trolling the food blogger for his recipe.
Earlier, too, people were baffled by some outrageous recipes. As the pandemic forced people to return home, many resorted to innovative recipes and while some turned out to be delicious, most were cursed.
