Nigerians celebrate dubious wealth, says fashion blogger Noble Igwe

Fashion blogger, Nobel Igwe has reacted to the recent viral report of a ritual murder involving four teenagers in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The social media influencer claimed on his verified Twitter account, @NobelIgwe, on Sunday that the desire for wealth stems from the way Nigerians celebrate questionable and ill-gotten wealth in the country.

“Every day we’re on different pages of people we know can’t afford certain things shouting ‘God when’ and then come here (on social media) to act surprised that people are hurting for Our company does not question the source of anything.

“In most clubs, it’s just bottle services. They don’t sell cocktails or beer, but when people order expensive drinks, the music is muted to deliver drinks to one person or a group. People would kill or commit crimes to get such treatment.

“Some people post three sketches a year and then post a house they just bought; people will appear in movies and then post “new me, new home”. The thing is, we celebrate all types of questionable wealth.

“The Church will accept donations from anyone with money, the village will crown anyone with money, no questions asked. Families don’t ask their children how they earn their money and some don’t care. It is society that feeds this monster.

“I have to stop now, I already see my tweets on blogs. Remember that family is important in shaping society and we owe it to each other to fix our homes. Stop celebrating overnight success,” Igwe said.

It was earlier reported by The PUNCH that three teenagers were arrested by the Ogun State Police Command on Saturday, for allegedly killing and burning a girl’s head for money rituals.
