Prime Minister Imran Khan finally meets the family of missing blogger Mudassar Naru

Prime Minister Imran Khan met the family of missing blogger Mudassar Mehmood Naaru in Islamabad.

Mudassar Naru’s parents and his son met the Prime Minister in his office. Federal Minister of Human Rights Shireen Mazari and Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Javed Khan also attended the meeting.

The Prime Minister assured the family that all possible measures would be taken to recover their loved one.

“We are bringing in a law to end enforced disappearances,” the prime minister said.

After the meeting, Shireen Mazari said the family were happy with the Prime Minister’s assurances. He gave directions to the Home Secretary and his office to proceed with this matter.

On December 1, the High Court in Islamabad ordered the Secretary of Defense and the Minister of Human Rights to arrange a meeting between the Prime Minister and Naaru’s family.

The court set a December 13 deadline for the meeting.

During the proceedings, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah noted that when people from influential families go missing, it shakes the whole country. “But when an ordinary man disappears, no one cares.”

“If the state is called the mother of the people, why doesn’t it act like it? Asked Judge Minallah.

The court ordered the government to pay compensation to Naaru’s family as soon as possible.

Naaru reportedly disappeared in August 2018 while on vacation in Kaghan with his wife Sadaf Chughtai and their then six-month-old son Sachal. Sadaf was found dead at her home in Lahore in May 2021 after campaigning for her husband for three and a half years.
