The Wake Forest women’s basketball team has found their new coach. Sporting director John Currie announced Thursday evening that he had hired American University head coach Megan Gebbia to fill the position that was vacated following the departure of Jen Hoover earlier this month.
Gebbia has an all-time record of 160-105 as a head coach and became American’s highest earning coach this season after picking up number 151. In his 9 years as a American’s head coach, Gebbia has 5 20-win seasons, 3 NCAA Tournament appearances, 2 WNIT appearances, 3 Patriot League regular season championships, 3 Patriot League Tournament championships and 2 awards Patriot League Coach of the Year.
Even with all this success, Gebbia seems to keep things fun with his players – reminds me of another basketball coach at Wake Forest.
As Wake Forest carried out coaching after the transfer deadline of May 1, this deadline has been extended until June 1. Now that the Deacs have hired a coach, I expect all players who were considering transfers to make their decisions in the coming days. Hopefully the Deacs bring everyone back for next season.
Welcome to Wake Forest Megan and Go Deacs!
