It is safe to assume that dosa and idli are among the most sought after dishes in Indian cuisine. Wholesome and comforting, we find these South Indian staples in almost every Indian restaurant. And we love to get our hands dirty when we enjoy a hearty dosa. Scooping up some of that savory potato mix with the crunchy dosa and finally dipping it into a hot, tangy sambar must be the perfect way to enjoy the delicacy, right? While this may be the best way to enjoy dosa at home, there is a certain etiquette we need to follow when dining out, especially if it’s a formal gathering. A food blogger recently uploaded a video showing the “right way to eat a Masala Dosa” and it sparked extreme opinions on the internet.

Food stylist and blogger, Mansi Shiv Rathi had recently uploaded a video on his Instagram profile @_pizzandpie_ explaining how to eat dosa and the video did not sit well with viewers. While some thought the idea was useful and liked it, many thought it was pointless. This debated video has garnered over 474,000 views in the past few days, along with 28,700 likes and 103 comments. The simple video shows how to eat dosa by digging a hole in the middle with a fork. Comments were divided on whether the technique was good or bad. Many viewers appreciated the technique and wrote:
” Shit ! Where have you been all this time!!
“I was this year today”
“Thank you ab mein sharminda hone se bachungi” (Thank you, this will save me the embarrassment).
Many others expressed their dislike for the video and left comments like:
“Masala Dosa Label Step 1 There is no spoon/fork”
“What. You’re not using a spoon or fork while eating dosa. It’s embarrassing and ruined my day.”
“False: you don’t use anything but your hands”
“A dosa is eaten with the hand in fact, the fork and the spoon are not used by everyone.”
